“जब तक माथे पर लाल रंग नहीं लगता, राजपूत किसी को तंग नहीं करता |
सर चड जाती है यह दुनिया, भूल जाती है यह दुनिया, की राजपूत की तलवार को कभी जंग नहीं लगता |”
Rajput (from Sanskrit raja-putra, "son of a king")
is a member of one of the patrilineal clans of the Indian subcontinent. They rose to
prominence from the late 6th century CE, and, until the 20th century, the
Rajput rulers dominated many regions of central and northern India including the eastern regions of
present-day Pakistan.
The Rajput population and the former Rajput states are
found spread through much of the subcontinent, particularly in north, west and
central India. These areas include Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu, Kashmir, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Sindh.
Being
a Rajput, I enjoy various customs, traditions of this caste. Rajput, is a caste
with different customs and traditions. And I am proud of it. I am going to
write here why being a Rajput is different and awesome!!
1. Others greet
people by ‘NAMASTE’; Rajputs greets
them by ‘Khamma Ghani’
The
very first thing which makes you different is the greeting and the way of
greeting. Generally, people greets elders by touching their feet or folding
their hands and say ‘Namaste’, but Rajput say ‘Khamma Ghani sa’. ‘Khamma’ means
forgiveness and ‘Ghani’ means a lot.
2) You get to wear different clothes.
You
must have seen Rajput ladies wearing different dresses. One can easily identify
that they are Rajput. And gents wear, ‘Birjis’ and a kurta kind of shirt.
3) When words like ‘Hukum’, ‘Bana’, ‘Baisa’ sparkles your
conversation.
It
happens in Rajput culture when even a younger brother or sister is addressed
with respect. They do not call their elders- ‘Uncle’, ‘Aunt’ or ‘Sir’. They
call them by ‘Kakisa’, ‘Kakosa’ or ‘Hukum’.
These
are not the only ones, there are many facts, customs and traditions which a Rajput
follows.
